“The Splinter” A Supercar that Will Give You Serious Wood.
January 3, 2016In 2008, Designer Joe Harmon took on the dubiously tedious task of building a car. But not just any car. A supercar. And not just any supercar, a supercar made of wood.
The Splinter, a true labor of love, is the world’s first and only supercar constructed out of wood. After 7 years, The Splinter was finally completed in 2015, and was shown to an excited audience at the Essen Motor Show from Nov 27-Dec 6, 2015.
The Splinter is a mid-engine set up that houses a 4.6 Liter v-8 that produces roughly 600 horsepower, a 0-60 in the low 3’s, and an estimated top speed of somewhere in the 240-mph neighborhood.
The car consists of wood composite, and are woven into a carbon fiber(esque) material that adds strength and durability. Other parts of The Splinter are also created from wood composite, including wood inserts on the wheels.
