The AirDog Auto Follow Drone

auto-follow-gopro-quadrocopter-drone-300x250The next step in being awesome is right at your doorstep. The AirDog drone is probably one of the coolest inventions of 2014, maybe of the 2000’s.

The AirDog is an auto-follow quad-copter drone, which means it follows you wherever you might go, recording your every move, should you tell it to do so. There are no remote controls, just turn it on and voila, you have a new best friend.

All operations are autonomous, which makes for a pretty carefree day of having a robot follow you around in the air.

The Air Dog is controlled by an AirLeash, a device that attaches to your wrist or helmet. The AirDog simply follows the AirLeash. Flight adjustments can be via the AirLeash control panel, and more advanced setting can be made via smart phone app.

The drone has been specifically marketed toward action sports enthusiasts, but with a price of only $1,300.00 I can see a few people purchasing these just for shits and giggles. Or to chronicle their meaningless lives in a more meaningful way. Prediction, lots of great videos on YouTube of not so great people.

While this is by far one of the coolest products on the planet, the realist in me must ask some questions about the AirDog. What about crashing into the middle of the ocean during a gnarly wave? Or, if you’re at an event with multiple drones, will they fly into each other or respect the airspace? It could be a potentially an unwieldy project with very interesting consequences.

Or, if we’re lucky, the drones will start fighting each other. Find a pre-botoxed Megan Fox and a pair of those jean shorts and we’re living the Transformers movie. Silver lining, no matter what happens, we’ll have some great footage should the carnage ensue.
