Nerd Makes Gun with 3-D Printer

3d gun Michael Guslick knuckle dragger magazineMichael Guslick, an amateur gunsmith has created two guns at home with the help of a 3-D printer and some serious nerd power. Now before you run out to Staples and ask the 16-year-old cashier where the gun printers are, hold on a sec. 3-D printers are manufacturing grade printers that can create a solid object from any digital model.

And they’re not cheap. They range from 400.00-25,000.

Guslick, who was feeling adventurous, printed out a polymer receiver for his first gun, a .22 caliber pistol. He used other store-bought items to piece it together, and then fired 200 rounds with no incident.

After his first success, he created an AR-15 that, despite some minor feeding and extraction issues, fired with scary precision. So, with all of the gun control laws run a muck, is the fact that a regular guy with some manufacturing skills and a  3-D printer can make a full-functioning gun in his home?

I don’t think there’s going to be a new wave of criminals sitting in their basements churning out assault rifles, the black market is much more efficient with guns that are already being manufactured by some heavy hitters like, err…Lockeed Martin, Smith &Wesson, and Springfield Armory.

As it sits, we’ve  just come across a gun nerd that can make guns. No need to call in the drones just yet.
