Jay-Z’s RocNation Sports Just Might Make It.September 5, 2014
Jay-Z has clearly done well for himself over the past couple decades. He managed to get a Maybach with a driver, purchased art no one else could afford, he has about half-billion dollars in the bank, and even married Beyonce in the process. Good on you, partner.
Although, with his most recent venture, RocNation Sports, a full-service sports agency, Jigga has come into some obstacles as his fledgling firm struggles for legitimacy amongst a seriously competitive and cut-throat market.
Even though RocNation Sports is partnered with Creative Artist Agency (CAA), a firm managing in excess of 6-billion dollars in contracts, their work has been overshadowed. And with only 9 clients, it’s been hard to make a splash; especially with guys like Hakeem Nicks on the roster.
But wait, a dark horse lies in the stable. Kevin Durant, you may have heard of him. He’s a pro basketballer playing for Oklahoma City Thunder (OKC), and he won something call a league MVP. I think he’s good.
Well, the 25-year-old small forward, who stands at 6’9 by the way, decided to roll the dice with RocNation and it just paid of big time. Durant is in the process of inking a 10-year sponsorship deal with Nike for 300-million dollars, after Under Amour starting a bidding war that they obviously lost. But Durant won, and Jay-Z won.
RocNation Sports just might start to get a little more attention after orchestrating one of the largest endorsement deals in history. If not, you’re still Jay-Z, buddy.
