Indie Game Darkest Dungeon Releases New Footage From PAX

1_GetBackRed Hook Studios has posted new gameplay footage that displays the game features they added in time for PAX this year.

After a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign back in February, Darkest Dungeon has received national attention by indie gaming enthusiasts. The game is a turn-based role-playing dungeon crawler mixed with some rogue elements and an art style not unlike that of Mike Mignola.

According to the game’s official site, you will “recruit, equip, and manage a stable of over 16 heroes” and each experience the characters have in the dungeon will affect their mental states. For instance, one character could become an alcoholic to cope with the horrors he has seen, effecting his coordination, but increasing his bravery.

The order of the characters in your four-person party will also effect gameplay. The character who goes first will get hit first by certain attacks, but others will go over her head. You can spend a turn to change their order, but enemies can also unleash attacks or spells that will shuffle your team and mess up your strategy.

At PAX, the devs introduced four more classes: Bounty Hunter, Grave Robber, and Occultist. They have also smoothed out the combat skills mechanics, giving each character class seven skills – which is more than they can bring to each dungeon. Here is the video that aired at PAX.

If you’d like to see more, check out the media page of their website. The game is currently available for preorder there and will be available on Steam early 2015.
