“Cutch” Joins ESPN Show The Next Round

I don’t think anyone is surprised that the Buccos missed the mark yet again this year, starting with a blazing hot streak and then closing out the season with an epic fail. But I digress to the off season and more fun stuff.

The one bright spot in the Pirates organization, other than the fireworks, free t-shirts, and random concerts, is Andrew McCutchen. The MVP hopeful recently took on the roll of sports analyst, round table discusser, and mystery drink drinker on ESPN’s, The Next Round.

Apparently the show is “served up” by Jim Beam. They make the liquor that contributes to your drunk texting and late night crying sessions to lifetime movies. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.

Cutch talks about all types of sports, athletes and shows some surprising insight. It’s a welcome change from the local sports shows that talk every sport to death, over analyze insignificant details, make completely inane observations and then take calls from all the local experts. “You know what the Stillers need to do Mike? They need to get Harrison playing DB and put Polamalu at RB. I’ll show Yinz haw to play football.”

And all of this is done over a cocktail of low light and shotty production, giving it that supreme awkwardness. Why can I hear the producer drinking water in the background and a toilet flushing?

Ok, so it’s not much different than any other sports program, but at least it doesn’t look like it’s being filmed in a basement and the guy is expanding his horizons past driving a car with rims and having a plasma TV that massages your feet.  Here’s a little snippet of the latest show, judge for yourself. Is Cutch a worthy TV analyst?
