Last week, the full character list for Super Smash Bros Wii U was leaked – but I’m not going to talk about that, because that would ruin all the fun. Instead, I’m going to talk about the underwhelming new character that Nintendo announced this week.
You may remember Xenoblade Chronicles as the quiet best-selling JRPG from April 2012, though its success in North America was somewhat muted by the release of the controversial Mass Effect 3 in the same month. The game received largely positive reviews however, with a Metacritic score of 92.
Apparently, this was enough for Nintendo to include Shulk, the game’s protagonist in the latest Super Smash Bros. His primary weapon is The Monado, a, energy blade capable of both up close and long-range attacks. Based on the move set shown in his release video, Shulk appears to be very similar to Marth. He even has a counter attack shown around 1:35 in the video. Shulk doesn’t appear to be a full clone, however, so I’m betting he’ll have some original moves to show off at release.
