New hi-tech specimen from Dremel – a $999 3D printer

Dremel-3D-Idea-Builder-1Dremel, a company most famous for putting the rotary high-speed concept into motion back when gold prospectors were still a thing (1934), now decides to devote to their passion project – a 3D printer that starts selling at Amazon and Home Depot sometimes in November.

The printer in mind will create most things a user’s imagination can think of, except for genuine paper (or coin) money and a fully functional time-travel machine. The hardware can work both as a standalone model or connected to computers through which users can print their favorite life-size Hollywood actors’ models (I seriously don’t know if that’s going to be a thing, but if it does – I’m totally not going to college this year and am buying this beauty instead). Also, potential customers can take matters in their own hands, and build 3D models from scratch with the help of Autodesk 123D.

Dremel’s machine will go against MakerBot’s (now owned by an Israeli company called Stratasys) line of printers, which has three-stage 3D printer values: $1,399 for entry-level (Mini), $2,899 for middle-class models (Replicator) and $6,499 for the big bot Z18. MakerBot also made a deal with Home Depot dot com.

Back at CNET, the report says Dremel has a lot more coming for the 3D printer marketplace.

On the other hand, I just want a Conan O’Brien 3D mannequin. Now.
