Rainey, a fifth round draft pick for the 2012 season, was in Gainsville, Florida when he and his girlfriend got into an altercation about Rainey’s cell phone.
I’m only speculating here, but why else would a woman get into an argument about her boyfriend’s cell phone at 8:30 in the morning? Probably because Rainey was putting in a little extra “yardage” with another team.
The two ended up going at it, Rainey tried pulling the girl out of the car and eventually put the Rick James slap on her. The police came and the rest is history. As AJ McCarron is having the best week ever, Rainey qualifies for the worst week ever.
After he was arrested, the Steelers GM , Kevin Colbert, dropped the hammer on the 24-year-old. “Under the circumstances and due to this conduct, Chris will no longer be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.”
That’s what we call a hurt piece, ladies and gents. Sad to see Rainey lose out on a four-year-deal with the Steelers over something that could have been avoided with a little forethought.
Oh well, pro athletes aren’t paid to think, they’re paid to perform. And now Rainey will have to perform elsewhere, if he gets picked up next season. The NFL isn’t too crazy about domestic violence.
The Miami Dolphins axed Chad Johnson after he tuned up his significant other. Rainey would have been better off smoking a joint, taking some PEDs, or killing his teammate while drunk driving. Dealer’s choice.
