All of these years have passed and not one Elvis sighting, until now. We’re doing a little flying today with Seth from the Pittsburgh Flight Training Center at the Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin, then all of a sudden, Elvis appeared…Apparently he moved out of Graceland and reincarnated himself as helicopter. Awesome. Elvis, an Erickson S-64 Air Crane Helicopter, is able to lift up to 25,000 lbs and take it wherever it needs to go, while only burning around 500 gallons of aviation fuel per hour. With those 6-rotor blades, Elvis can crank out wellover 8,000 horsepower from those dual Pratt & Whitney turbo shaft engines. The Erickson S-64 Air Crane Helicopter is versatile and can do multiple tasks for the civilian world as well as missions in the military. From transporting military equipment, fire suppression, to lifting heavy air conditioning units to the tops of the highest skyscrapers, there’s not much Elvis can’t do.
Another cool feature of Elvis is the fact that the pilot can fly the helicopter at the same time as operating the crane, while facing the rear of the machine and watching the load he’s lifting. Simply put, he has all the same controls he would need to fly the helicopter at his finger tips to move and lift the heavy loads safely and accurately.
This is definitely something I would want for Christmas.
